This cooler is about what you would expect from a near copy of the stock cooler that’s currently being shipped (October 2009) with Intel Core 2 Duos. It is quieter than the stock cooler, but only just. Instead of a whining noise from the stock cooler, you get a less annoying sound of air being pushed around by this one. I only would consider this as a replacement for a stock cooler that broke, or if you have a bare chip, especially if you’re going for a very low profile. The price is definitely worth the trouble too. (To note, “quiet” for me is somewhere around 15 dBA MAX acoustics, not nominal. Also note, that I tested this for stock and overclock configurations using a Core 2 Duo E8400 [3.0GHz].)

I paid $20 for the cooler. It went basically right in. It didn’t catch all 4 corners but I’m not worried about it, it’ll come out easier when I upgrade the CPU. It got my computer running and I expect good service from it. If you can’t find better, I recommend it.
