First of all you have to know the direction of the sun. The sun is always in the same place everyday at noon. This is when you should set it up. Check with your weather station or weather channel for specific times, dates & directions
Noon may not be the best time, but in any case take a watch out with you, Move the dial until the “Flag” the verticle piece that casts a shadow allows a shadow to fall at the time on your watch. I’ll suggest before or after noon, since at noon the sun, is directly overhead. Try 11 AM or 1 PM. When the shadow lines up with the number on the dial that corresponds with your watch, you should be OK.
You need not hang out, to check it either,,,smiles.
